Chicken and Egg Festival

So Saturday morning we got up got the kiddos ready to go to Lele's and then dropped them off and headed off to Lawrence County. In LC they were having the annual Chicken n Egg Festival and this year my dad decided to participate in it. So the Optimist Clubs of Decatur, Moulton, and Athens set up the concession stand to raise money for our programs that we do thru out the year. The Optimist Club is like the Lions Club. We do things for the community and for the youth in the community. Here are the programs we do for the community. One of the ones we do is we help with the local 4H club in Morgan County with their annual roundup and also we help judge the safety cartoons that the 4H does. We also honor an outstanding local Decatur police officers and also someone from the Sheriffs dept each year. We have been doing this for over 18 yrs now I believe. The year before last we got to honor one of my friends from highschool with the decatur police drug task force for his outstanding work he has done. We also have a junior golf tournament each yr. The winner at the international level wins a scholarship. One thing I would like to say about this is that Tiger Woods won our junior golf tournament when he was a kid. Also we have oratorical contest and essay contest for highschool students. At each lvl the winner receives a cash prize in the form of a savings bond and at the international lvl the winner receives a scholarship for college. These are just a few of the projects our club does. There are many more clubs out there that does numerous of things for the community they live in and also for the children. Here is a the link http://www.optimist.org/ .
Also I would like to share the Optimist Creed with everyone.
Promise Yourself ...
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

So continueing on about Saturday... We worked a long day at the concession stand. Of course since it was a chicken festival most of our food was chicken LOL... We had grilled chicken sandwhiches, chicken salad sandwhiches, turkey dogs, ribbon fries, chips, nachos n cheese and of course our best funnel cakes in the world. We had a really great day and I also got to see ppl I hadnt seen in yrs at the festival which was nice too. Here are some pics of us workers at the festival.

So after a busy Saturday we came home and then got ready to go to a going away party for our friend Jennifer who is leaving for the air force in a week. It was fun. We all had a good time and it was nice spending time with Jennifer again. I sure do love that girl alot. So after the busy festivities of Saturday I ended up sleeping all day Sunday. I think I finally woke up at 5pm in time to pick up my kiddos from the inlaws. I dont think I have slept that long in awhile but due to being such an insominac lately and having a bad migrane I think the sleep was much needed. Now to see if I can sleep tonite LOL. Well I am done with blogging for tonite hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. ttyl
